Tesla tests electric car shipments to Japan out of Hueneme

The Asian press descended on the Port of Hueneme Wednesday to see a dozen Tesla Motors roadsters awaiting delivery to Japan, as the Silicon Valley-based company announced its entry into the Asian market with Japan being its first destination.

The 12 Japan Signature Series Roadsters run $150,000 apiece, more than the $125,000 base price because of upgrades like French executive leather.

Tesla’s roadsters are all electric and can travel more than 200 miles per charge. The body of the car is made of carbon fiber, which is extremely strong, flexible and light, according to Tesla spokeswoman Khobi Brooklyn.
